The University of Padova is one of the oldest universities in the world, dating back to the 13th century. A few months ago I attended a seminar at the university, and there would be all sorts of tours taking us to see various historical parts of the campus. The first session was held in the old archive, and we sat listening to lectures surrounded by ancient texts. The highlight of the visit was the tour to the old medical school, seeing the “theater” where students could observe the human operations taking place, back then revolutionary and not to be taken for granted given the Church insisting on the need to maintain human sanctity.
