While visiting the Fukuoka area in Japan I took a one day getaway trip towards the east to see the Kitakyushu area, and make a stop on the way to do one of my favorite things when I travel – go up cable cars. The higher the better, the more spectacular the views – the happier I am. And Mount Sarakura did not fail me. A series of two cable cars, going up steep mountains to take you to some spectacular panoramic views of the northern coast line, it was a great way to spend two hours and take in the Japanese views. Granted, it’s not the most beautiful of Japan’s regions, very industrial, and still – it was great to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and ground level and mingle with the Gods looking down from mountain tops. There are various hikes in the area that I have not tried, I just did a quick circular path going around the mountain, but if you have longer than I did, one of the nice things you can do is slowly hike down the mountain and make a stop at various points overlooking different scenery.
Let’s go up with the cable car…
Then change to a second smaller cable car…
And by then… there’s this overlooking the north.
What’s on the other side towards the south? much more nature… mountain scenery.
Time to head back…
