Sapporo has a number of public parks all over the city, but the one I liked the most, by far, was the Moerenuma Park. It’s a bit off the beaten track in already rural Sapporo, but it’s well worth it. Aside from the wide greens there are very interesting sculptures, fountains, and buildings by some of Japan’s finest artists and architects (e.g., Isamu Noguchi). The hills will offer you panoramic views of the park all the way to Sapporo, and the buildings feature very interesting exhibitions about remarkable locals. Even if you just want to take a walk around the lovely park and relax, that can easily fill a couple of hours.
Location:
A great way to spend an afternoon. If you have a car, and a few extra hours, and you’d like to get some fresh air surrounded by green and arts, then this is your spot!
