Looking for a place to look at Mexico City from above? At the entrance to the pedestrian street leading to the historic center of Mexico City is the tall Torre Mirador Latinoamericana which hosts a very humble observation deck on the top. You could also go up to the bar for some drinks at comparable prices, but the observation deck offers scenic views in open air rather than through glass windows, and that definitely adds to the charm. Mexico City probably isn’t what you’d consider a ‘beautiful’ city, but the size of it, the mountains in the back with the colorful (slum?) houses and the interesting architecture of the buildings of the historical district (like the opera house) do make for an interesting view. Pollution is a concern, Mexico City has its good and bad days, but if you go up early in the morning on a clear day you can expect some expansive views as far as the eye can see.
I was staying at the historic district area, so I found myself crossing the building countless times…
But it’s only on the last day of my visit that I realized I can go up, and by then the air wasn’t as clear. Still, was nice to go up and take in the city…
Location:
If it’s a sunny clear day and you’re at the historic district, take half an hour to go up and enjoy the views. it’s a rather pleasant way of orienting yourself with this massive city.
