Set just next to Hong Kong’s tallest mountain, overlooking the new territories as far as Shenzhen are the Kadoorie Farm & Botanical Gardens. It’s a gorgeous little spot and it’s very well done, with beautiful gardens, a small animal collection to get the kids excited and a terrific guided bus tour that takes you all the way to the top where you’ll enjoy some of the best scenic mountain views of Hong Kong (price – 10HK$).
Need panorama to get the feel of things? Got a few for you…
The project itself dates back to 1956 and was setup to help the local farmers in improving farming techniques. The farms are set all across a mountain side down to the valley, surrounded by woods and natural scenery.
I’m guessing more for the kids, you can find a small zoo there with some of the regional (?) wildlife.
If you’re into hiking, Hong Kong’s one and only waterfall is in the area – Ng Tung Chai Waterfall, which I hope to come back and visit. More on the Kadoorie farm and the nearby waterfall here :
What a great look at such a long term project!
Nice photos! – I hiked out this way a while back – the hike is called Razor Back and starts just opposite the farm. I must actually visit the farm next time.
I've been meaning to visit Kadoorie Farms once of these days… but erm… no way does Hong Kong have only one waterfall. Among others: how about Bride's Pool?? ;b
Right! haven't been to Bride's Pool yet. Know of any other waterfalls in HK?
I have passed a fair few when hiking… albeit minor ones with no names — but some of them plenty pretty enough as far as I'm concerned. Still, speaking of one that gave its name to a place: have you seen the (actually not that huge) waterfall at Waterfall Bay (which is accessible from Waterfall Bay Park near Wah Fu)?
And a quick Google search came up with the following HK Magazine article:-

YTSL – you have enlightened me once again, much obliged. Looking forward to reading your future hiking posts…
