Though Hong Kong has some really nice beaches and the water quality is said to be adequate in most, it is still a bit difficult to find a good spot for diving and snorkeling where you can actually see lively underwater life. Hoi Ha Wan in the Sai Kung National Park is one of those few spots.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board Tourist Information Services has a nice booklet of “Discover Hong Kong Nature” complete with maps and explanations about a lot of nature spots in Hong Kong:
If you want a closer look, it is possible to rent masks and sorkels from the local village stores…
To see more of the bay’s habitat, retrace your steps and head just beyond the minibus stop and then take the path down to the right…
How to get there : Take bus 92 or on Sundays and public holidays take bus 96R to Sai Kung Town from MTR Diamond Hill Station Exit C2, then interchange with green minibus 7 or take a taxi to Hoi Ha Village.
The minibus ride is about half an hour of turns, which I promise you the minibus driver with take with his foot on the gas pedal.
A visit to Hoi Ha can be readily combined with a visit to Sheung Yiu Folk Museum.
