On a gloomy hot Sunday in Hong Kong we set off to do the Wilson Trail stage 4 backwards from the Sha Tin Pass all the way east down hill towards Sai Kung. This trail shares a section with MacLehose trail stage 5 – which I did last year, and in that combined section there’s a terrific spot overlooking eastern Kowloon where the winds are just right for the local Hong Kong people to come and fly their gliders.
So, being a lazy ass, we took a cab all the way up to the top and joined the local crowds in gazing into the crazy Hong Kong skyscrapers while trying to following glider air acrobatics. It’s fun…
Watch this video with one of the more professional guys we saw there…
But there were lots of them, with all sorts of different gliders…
And another friendly glider…
If you’re wondering what things look like from the glider’s perspective, watch this next video here (found on Youtube) :
Let’s move on to the hike …
We’ll kick it off with a few panoramas as a teaser. If only the weather was nicer, the panoramas would be absolutely perfect.
Even up on the mountains, you can’t escape the beautiful cars…
As we head down hill towards the east, the scenery changes into a farm land where people grow all sorts of organic things…
If you’re in need of a map of the trail…
A very nice and easy hike. Trust me when I say you H-A-V-E to do it backwards or you’ll die of exhaustion half way up-hill.
