Crossing the Costa-Rica Nicaragua border I went straight to the car rental, got my ride, and headed to San Juan del Sur for my first glimpse of Nicaragua. The contrast to Costa Rica was apparent, the beach wasn’t as nice, the town seemed less developed, and prices were way down. After grabbing a meal and touring around a bit, I took the car and was looking for an observation point to take it all in, and the big Jesus statue on top of one of the nearby mountains seemed like a promising option. Christ of the Mercy is one of the tallest Jesus in the world, standing 134m tall on one of the peaks. Many travelers decide to hike it, it’s a long and steep way up, but I was lazy and did that almost all the way to the top with a car. 2USD entrance ticket, and you get some spectacular views of the coastline and nearby beaches.
