Save the best for last. On my last visit to Mexico’s gorgeous Cancun and the Yucatan province, I did a day-trip to see some of the Mayan pyramid ruins. I’m constantly amazed by how well preserved the Mexico pyramid ruins are, and can’t help but stand in awe in view of these lost ancient civilizations and their architecture feats. The Chichen-Itza pyramids are a wonder. If you’ve been to any pyramid site in Mexico then you’ll know what I mean (seen the Teotihuacan pyramids yet?). They’re absolutely insane, I haven’t seen anything quite like anywhere else. What’s even more baffling is that these civilizations were completely eradicated, and visiting the ethnographic historical museums in Mexico City I realized just how little we know about those cultures and what happened to them. These pyramids are not only a testimony of remarkable cultures, but perhaps even more so for the unfathomable destruction of the invading colonizing powers. The Itza people were among the very last to withstand the invading Spanish armies.
In any case, if you’re traveling to see Cancun, rent a car or take a group-tour to Chichen-Itza. You can combine that with the Mayan pyramids of Tulum and cool down at some of the nearby cenote. It’ll be a day to remember.
What’s so amazing about these pyramids? Here, see for yourself…
Once you’re done the 2-3 hours tour of the place in hot humid weather, what better than to dive in deep to clear cold water? try the nearby cenote…
Mexico has so much going for it, beaches, history, weather, food, it’s just endless. Pyramids are a great example of just how much there is to see and learn in Mexico. These Chicen Itza pyramids are a must-do if you’re in the area, do not miss these.
