If you get a bit tired of the heavy tourist traffic in Venice and want to cool off a bit somewhere more quiet then a boat trip to Murano Island could be just the thing. A short trip on the gorgeous water ways and with some of the remarkable Venice landscapes in the background, and you’re in Murano, a small island community specializing in glass. You’ll immediately notice how things slow down, are slightly less commercialized and authentic, and with a bit more of an art hippie vibe. Many of the local residents do something related to glass, with glass art galleries, factories, and demonstrations. We really didn’t do much aside from walking around, looking at the various glass artists as they do their thing in their galleries, and sitting down for one glass blowing demonstration. It was a lovely sunny day, and for us it was a breath of fresh air from all the tourist crowd insanity in central Venice.
Let’s get on the boat…
Get off the boat in Murano…
Peek in to some workshops…
See some glass installations…
And go in for a glass blowing demo…
Where they’ll show you how they do something like this…
Location:
Not a must do, but definitely a different side of hectic tourist overrun Venice to see a bit of the glass industry history of the region.
