Disclaimer : These are not my rankings, they’ve been conducted by various institutions that have their own special methodology and way of calculating university rankings. If you have something to say about the methodology, I suggest contacting them. If you have something to say about Asian academics – this would be a good place to discuss it. This list is simply provided as a service that attempts to give a general overview of academics in Asia and their rankings in the world. It should also be noted that I’m a PhD student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Why the HKUST is highly evaulated than Univ of tokyo, Peking University and Seoul national university?? here are there comparison 1.SNU(Seoul National University) Arts & Humanities 54 Natural Sciences 38= Engineering & IT 38 Social Sciences 42 Life Sciences 38 2.Univ of Tokyo Arts & Humanities 20 Natural Sciences 9 Engineering & IT 7 Social Sciences 20 Life Sciences 6 3.Peking University Arts & Humanities 24 Natural Sciences 21 Engineering & IT 33 Social Sciences 23 Life Sciences 21 4.HKUST Arts & Humanities 301-350 Natural Sciences 94 Engineering & IT 26 Social Sciences 58= Life Sciences 62= BUT in overall… Read more »
Tongfeinge – I think this has to do with the fact that you’re looking at different rankings emphasizing different things. HKUST is top in the QS, FT and other rankings which incorporate several different dimensions. The Shanghai Jiaotung mainly measured academic performance in terms of publishing, number of nobel prize winners etc, and since HKUST is a relatively small university and very young it tends to score much lower on those. For everyone of those rankings, I suggest you look at the methodology section.
Oh,, That sources are derived from QS home, not the ARWU..
Tongfeinge – Oh, now I see what you’re talking about. This seems to reflect differences between the Asian rankings and the World Rankings. Maybe this would help – http://www.topuniversities.com/wur-methodology/aur-world
But, you’re right, it’s very confusing. Thanks for pointing that out.
Thanks for your warm reply.
and one more, ARWU means Academic Rankings of World University, not the Asian rankings and the World Rankings. ARWU is ranked by Shaghai jiatong University so SJTUranking=ARWU.
