The Belgrade Fortress is probably the top attraction in Belgrade. It covers a very large area with massive fortifications and lots of attractions offering panoramic views of Belgrade and the grand river from above. The strongholds in the area date back to the 3rd century BC, and has seen much destruction and reconstructions over the years by different empires and rulers. The Romans, the Byzantine, the Turks, as well as many of the regional rulers, they were all here battling for control of the region.
You’ll probably start the tour from the nearby park, where I caught some local festival. Then, entering the fortress, you can buy a joint ticket for many of the local exhibitions, such as an old well, an arms museum, observation points, ruins, etc. Much to see and do, you could easily spend half a day touring around. But the best part, ofcourse, are the views, and it’s a special treat to see the young locals fooling around against the romantic views of the city and river.
Location:
A top attraction in Belgrade. I can’t imagine visiting the city and not visiting, do not miss this if you’re around.
