On my last day in San Juan, after having visited most of the local historical attractions, I was looking for something a bit different. Bacardi’s Distillery – or Casa Bacardi – definitely qualifies as different. Though overly touristic and a well oiled PR machine, it wasn’t a bad escape from the heat. Who would say no to some free alcohol and a tour explaining the inner-workings of a distillery?
Upon arrival, you get a ticket for a tour and some free alcohol drinks.
Though I’d like to, there’s not much I can show you from the tour as photography is forbidden, but this video capture of the final part of the tour might show you a bit of the touristic experience :
Other than that, this is some of what you can expect to see :
It’s definitely not a must. I’m not even sure I’d recommend it unless you’ve run out of all the other wonderful things to explore in San Juan, but it’s a pleasant way to chill and pass a couple of hours. No need to set your expectations too high, but after all – it’s free, just right for my budget.
