What does hell look like? Up on the mountains of Hakone by a tram and a cable car, a daytrip away from Tokyo, is the Owakaduni Hell Valley. Boiling steam comes up from the mountain to create an atmosphere that looks a bit like hell. Aside from looking at steam, the area is famous for it’s gorgeous views and the black egg called Kurotamago.
If you want some of the local snacks…
Black eggs, black ice-cream, and a few other sweet treats.
To get to the boiling smelly springs, you need to climb up the mountain a bit for about 10 minutes…
A lovely little spot just before arriving at Lake Ashi.
