Hong Kong has got some of the most spectacular views I’ve seen. The blend of beautiful nature and outrageous urban skyscrapers sets the stage for impossible contrasts. Last Sunday I went with a friend to one of Hong Kong’s most famous hikes – to the Lion Rock Peak.
Although we took a Taxi most of the way up from Wong Tai Sin (note – it’s better from Choi Hung), the MacLehose Trail #5 – a section in 10 magnificent trails covering HK from east to west – is not an easy hike. The local HK people, I have to comment, seemed in unbelievably good shape. Groups of people were running (!!) the mountains up and down, elderly people – some over 70 – were making their way through the trail much faster than we were. In general, they were all very well equipped and very fashionably dress in shick mountain trekking sportswear. I’m jealous.
The views, as I’ve come to realize after living in HK, were absolutely breath-taking. Although it was a bit misty, here’s some of what I captured during the hike…
You don’t get to see that kind of view everyday.
Some of the locals gathered up on the mountains to fly their wind-surfing remote-controlled planes…
While others were keeping an eye on us in search for food…
If you like panoramas as much as I do…
Altogether 4.5 hours, with long stops on the way to appreciate the beauty surrounding us. Highly recommended.
the view form the peak is spectacular, better to climb the peak form the bottom (i did so)
Lion Rock hike from the bottom? damn, that's got to be difficult.
hey Fili!my friends and i hiked to lion rock today as well! it’s ridiculously hard for me…haha mainly because i’m lack of exercise 😀
this is my post, feel free to drop by 😛

Michael – you’re doing a TERRIFIC job with that blog. You should have started so long ago! keep it up. Yeah, it’s a tough hike, but well worth it. You could actually take a taxi half of the way up and skip the peak if you’re feeling lazy, but it’s good you pushed yourself to make the most of it. It makes the memories stronger.
