Hong Kong is famous for many things, but not many tourists consider it much of a nature destination, especially not when it comes to nice beaches. In the few months that I’ve lived in Hong Kong’s Sai Kung area, my perception of Hong Kong has been completely transformed. Hong Kong hosts some terrific nature spots and has some really nice beaches. I honestly don’t understand how the usually efficient Hong Kong Tourism Ministry completely missed out on this part of Hong Kong, but maybe it’s a good thing for the locals that this is kept as a hidden secret.
Not too far away from the university (HKUST), maybe 5-10 minutes, are the small beaches of Clear Water Bay – Clear Water Bay First Beach and Clear Water Bay Second Beach. Usually when I go there it’s a bit cloudy, but it is a nice little beach with the mandatory white sand, clear water, surfing shacks it’s and almost completely empty – just some cute friendly locals doing their own thing. Now that May is here, is should be just perfect.
I especially liked this elderly Chinese Gandalf with his huge white beard jogging back and forth along the beach. He just seemed… happy.
… and I completely understand why. Having a great quiet beach entirely for yourself to do what ever you want with would do that to most people.

And would you know anything about kosher chinese dining in HK? An ex-colleague of mine is coming over from Amsterdam with this family for a short visit and for just in case they are strictly eating… Read more »
