Northern India was cold, really cold. We were told that it was the worst winter in 90 years, and that in China millions of Chinese were stuck because of sudden snow on their way home for Chinese New Years. Northern India, and especially Pushkar isn’t well prepared for this kind of cold, having no heating systems what so ever, and so we kept covering ourselves in thick layers of blankets and still feeling a bit cold. Both my dad and I couldn’t help it, we both got sick, but atleast we got the weekend in Pushkar to try and recover, just chilling out in this lovely little quiet town.
We stayed with an Israeli-Indian couple who opened an Israeli hostel. After the Holy Saturday ceremony on Friday night, where we met actual Jewish Indians who grew up practicing Judaism as kids in the nearby Azmer, we woke up to a Pita, Hummus and Shakshoka breakfast before heading out for a walk. I think it was the first Israeli breakfast I had since leaving Israel, almost 6 months, and it tasted heavenly. I had no idea I missed it so much till I actually had it.
We walked towards a temple hike many do, but when we saw how far up the mountain it is we just went around the lake and found some interesting temples and one new hotel.
And after a day of eating, sleeping and not doing much, we came back to the sunset on the lake to watch the people doing their special chants.
We also caught a local wedding ceremony, with the grooms riding the horses and handing out money, while the brides were are the back on a carriage. Up front people were dancing away for hours.
I could see how some Israelis used to stay there for months.
Seems like you had a great holiday.
Heh, yeah, not too bad. 😛 😉
